It is the first day of Royal Ascot today, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in attendance, as are the Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, and a few other members of the Royal Family. Founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, the Royal Ascot is a five-day annual affair in Berkshire known for attracting fancy hats and many of the world's best racehorses. It is as much of a social occasion as it is a sporting event. Her Majesty regularly attends Ascot, along with various other members of the Royal Family. Here are William and Kate in the Royal Procession. First introduced in 1825 by King George IV, the Royal Procession continues to be a huge draw for the thousands of racegoers who attend Royal Ascot every year. Kate's dress is very similar to last year's Dolce & Gabbana white lace dress, but this time it is by McQueen. She is also wearing a new bespoke headpiece and the Queen's earrings. ASCOT DRESS CODE: Ascot is known for its strict and formal dress code. This is the first year that Ascot is allowing jumpsuits as part of the Royal Enclosure dress code. The dress code here is so strict, that many people get turned away for wearing the wrong thing. Here is this year's dress code rules for the Ascot Royal Enclosure: Ladies are kindly reminded that formal daywear is a requirement in the Royal Enclosure, defined as follows: • Dresses and skirts should be of modest length defined as falling just above the knee or longer. • Dresses and tops should have straps of one inch or greater. • Jackets and pashminas may be worn but dresses and tops underneath should still comply with the Royal Enclosure dress code. • Trouser suits are welcome. They should be of full length and of matching material and colour. • Jumpsuits are welcome. They should be of full length with regulations matching that for dresses. • Shorts are not permitted. • Midriffs must be covered. • Hats should be worn; however a headpiece which has a solid base of 4 inches (10cm) or more in diameter is acceptable as an alternative to a hat. Gentlemen are kindly reminded that it is a requirement to wear either black or grey morning dress which must include: • A waistcoat and tie (no cravats) • A black or grey top hat • Black shoes —————————— What look was your favourite of the day?
